I was born in the city of Riga, in the former USSR.
In 1995, I graduated from the Riga Technical University, in 2001 – took 2 years long remote course from the New York Institute of Photography.
Since then I work as a freelance photographer. My work took part in several international and local exhibitions and appeared in such publications as GEO and Discovery magazines, among others.
My ideas about photography are constantly changing, I am transitioning from one vision to another, yet unknown. Everything is transforming, becoming deeper and more subtle.
Having spent years studying composition, I now have come to feel that I ought to ‘forget everything’ I’ve learnt, to remove the judgemental mind, and leave no boundaries between my eyes, hands, and what we call intuition. This is a very delicate border state. It is akin to meditation.
The arrow hits the center of the target when the shooter and the goal become one. The task of a photographer is identical. It is easy to say and very hard to do, but how else to find new ways and reflect the underlying causes of the world we see, in photography?
